The Next, Next, Next Bob Dylan, Please

The Awl, which is such a great site, shares a cool piece on "Next Dylans" over the ages by Josh Lieberman. Find it here.

There's some fun history, a killer accompanying song list, and best of all, it ends with "Abandoned Love," which is neck and neck for me at the moment with "Up to Me" and "Blind Willie McTell" in the category of world-class-heart-wrenching-classic-Dylan-tunes-never-released-on-a-studio-album-(and-how-is-this-even-possible.)

The version of "Abandoned Love" that I truly love is offered by Nils Lofgren and Paul Rodgers on the new anthology Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan. See below for that one.
